Our Dental Practice
Is uniquely different from any dental practice you have ever experienced. Not simply because of the pleasant surroundings nor because of the highly skilled professional staff, nor even because of the high quality technical work we do.
Our practice is different because our mission is different. In todays world you are offered many choices as to how dental health care will be delivered to you, the patient. You can choose an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization), a PPO (A Preferred Provider Organization) or a CAP Program (A Capitation System). In all of these health delivery systems, you the patient, do not have a choice with regard to your treatment plan, you are not free to choose the dentist who attends to you, and normally you do not develop a significant relationship with either the dentist or the staff.
Our practice represents the 2-3% of dentists in the United States who have made a commitment to practice in a free environment. You are free to choose us or not. We are free to choose the best treatment plan that is consistent with your needs, wants and values. This is no idle, passive statement because we do not believe patients involved with HMOs, PPOs, and capitation systems are free. Normally they receive substandard treatment that does not involve the patient as part of the solution. The patient becomes the object of cure rather than participating in the prevention and curative phases of treatment.
We have centered our practice around prevention and health as opposed to one that simply emphasizes emergency and repair care. The supporting gum tissue and bone are just as vital as the teeth themselves. Unfortunately only lip service is normally paid to this important area and prevention is often misunderstood and inadequately stressed.
The best way to protect and maintain the crucial supporting structures for life is to have a qualified hygienist clean your teeth regularly, at which time preventive procedures can be implemented to protect your dental health. While the responsibility for returning for periodic preventive treatment lies with you, we will provide an ongoing program of health maintenance with you.
We recognized that emergencies do occur. Patients in our practice family will be provided with a 24-hour telephone number that will allow you to reach us at anytime of the day or night. We provide special priority status for you or any family member who has been seen in the previous year in our practice.
Basic Types of Dental Practices
1. Fine Dentistry and Prevention
This type of dentistry is dedicated to achieving Optimum Health and Optimum Repair of the oral health system. A thorough examination is completed and goal setting is instituted to create a Master Plan that has as its goal maximum protection and preservation of the oral health complex. Crucial to the continuation of Optimum Health are good daily oral hygiene habits and a strict regime of professional examinations and cleanings to prevent decay and gum disease.
The quality of care is good and preventive measures are fairly effective, but the patient is not dedicated to achieving Optimum Repair. Optimum repair of the natural teeth has as its goal the restoration of teeth to ideal beauty, function, comfort and longevity. Usually maintenance dentistry is intermediate dentistry such as silver and plastic fillings, which last 3-5 years. Maintenance dentistry is removable partial dentures rather than fixed or stationary bridgework.
3. Repair Oriented Practice
No long-term thought is given to either prevention of decay, gum disease or bite (occlusion-related) problems. Teeth are filled as they break and when gums bleed badly enough the patients have their teeth cleaned. This represents 70% of the dental practices in America today. The interesting thing about the patients who go to this kind of practice is that they dont like it, but have more or less given up on dentistry and what it can do for them.
Patients are seen only for emergency treatment. The majority of patients in this type of practice lose their teeth, usually by the age of 35-50, depending on heredity.
Please note that I draw a line between type 2 and 3 dental practice. We have absolutely no interest in being either a drill, fill and bill Practice, or an emergency only Practice.
In order for us to enjoy our practice and our life we believe we must be providing a worthwhile service for people we value and respect.
We believe in establishing long-term relationships built on freedom of choice, and mutual respect and value for each other and what we represent to each other.
Give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.
Patients suffer many problems because of inadequately planned and executed dental treatment. Restorative dentistry is that branch of dentistry that takes into consideration all the needs, wants and values of you, the patient, and designs one best treatment plan that will fulfill your needs and goals.
It is more noble to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the masses. Dag Hammarskjold
Dentistry is rapidly moving forward in the areas of Implant Dentistry and Cosmetics. New and innovative procedures and techniques are available today that were unheard of just five years ago. New materials and new techniques are enabling us to literally transform smiles, to enhance self-esteem and self-image. Career making dentistry is now available today that was previously only available to movie stars.
Our staff members are well trained and dedicated to making a difference for each and every person we are privileged to serve. No question is too small or insignificant for us to answer. Please also give us feedback, especially if its good. Too often dental auxiliaries only hear the negatives: the excuses people make why they cant come for an appointment, why they cant afford to have the work completed that they know they should do.
